The Celluloid Closetby Vito Russo is the seminal exploration of the depiction of GLBT characters on film. Released in 1981 (and revised in 1987), the book was adapted into a Peabody Award-winning documentary movieby directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman in 1995.
